Paying homage to the golden age of Pinky Violence, Ultraviole(t)nce revisits past and contemporary resistances against patriarchy and sex-ploitation. Repetition and regurgitation, utilised as tools of enforcement and engagement, collapses such scenes of violence, delirium and bestial desire into a condensed moving image.
Sisterhood, somewhat perverse albeit empowering, solidifies the revolt against essentialist power. Injected with godai (Japanese Five Elements), Ultraviole(t)nce draws parallels between the struggles of womanhood and Acts of God. The female heroine comes to the fore—she rises from the ashes of lunacy, basking in the afterglow of her emancipation.
